Common Word List

Ciao a tutti, (Hello everyone),

I have attached a copy of useful Italian words and phrases that you can revise with your children at home.  We have spent the last week having fun and learning to play Italian games.  The Foundation students have been learning a song about body parts, the year 1 and 2 students are performing a short puppet show to their peers, the year 3 and 4 students have learnt how to play Tombola (Bingo) and the year 5 and 6 students have learnt how to play a board game.  Pictures below.

Year 5 and 6 Italian Poetry Competition

The Year 5 and 6 students have been invited to participate in an Italian Poetry Competition to be held at Gladstone Park Secondary College on Wednesday 17th October, 2018.  I have included the poems and audio for anyone who is interested in participating.  Please see me As Soon As Possible if you would like to take part.

Useful words and phrases in Italian

Ciao a tutti, (Hello everyone), I have attached some useful words and phrases in Italian.  Feel free to print and use with your children at home.  All children have a copy of this list in the front cover of their Italian workbook at school.  A reminder to access Languages online at home, it is free and no log in is required.  Duolingo is also free, all you need is an internet connection.

Term 2 Italian news

Welcome ( Benvenuti )  to Term 2, i hope you all had a relaxing break with your families.  Just a reminder that LANGUAGES ON LINE has many interactive activities and games to help students learn.  Students and parents are encouraged to visit this site, it is free and no log in is needed.

All Year 6 classes will be learning a poem about the months of the year and how many days are in each of the months.  Please encourage your child to practice at home, we will also be practising each week in class.  I have attached the poem so that you can practice with them.

The Year 5 students will be listening to a story about Jake and the bean, (Giacco e il fagiolo).  They will continue to revise and build on their previous knowledge of colours, numbers and days of the week.  They will build on previous knowledge and write a description of themselves.

Benvenuti, Mi chiamo Signora Eleonora Schembri e sono l’insegnante d’italiano.

Welcome, my name is Mrs Eleonora Schembri and I am the Italian teacher.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children and working with them.  Please encourage your child to access the department’s FREE website,  Languages on line.  This program includes engaging interactive tasks and printable worksheets that introduce, reinforce and recycle vocabulary. Activites are self-paced and self-correcting and include recordings by native speakers.  Each child will receive a copy of useful words and phrases to use during Italian sessions.  I have included a copy for you to refer to at home. Front of book

Year 5 and 6 make Mt Vesuvius erupt!

Year 5 and 6 make Mt Vesuvius erupt!

The Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about the history of Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius,  to finish off our unit we made a simple volcano using water, bicarb soda, dish washing liquid and vinegar. Mt Vesuvius erupted on August 24, 79 AD, it destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.  It is still considered an active volcano, the most recent eruption occurred in 1944.
