Dear Parents,

Welcome to Year 1 –  we are looking forward to working together with you this year.

The Year 1 students have settled into their new classes extremely well and have been busy getting to know each other and the classroom routines. We have been very impressed with their enthusiasm for learning and the teachers have been enjoying getting to know each student.

Throughout the year, we will be sending out our newsletter ‘YEAR 1 NEWS’ to help keep you informed about what is happening at school. This edition should help you to become familiar with some of our routines and help answer some questions you may have.

COMMUNICATION

There are various ways to keep up to date with what’s going on around the school. Please ensure that you have downloaded the Compass app and access the school website on a regular basis. School newsletters are also available on Compass.

Remember that each day your child will bring home their Red Folder. Please ensure you check the folder each night for important notices. The folder is required to be at school every day.

If you would like to arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher either e-mail them directly OR put a quick note in this pouch.

Please ensure that any money sent to school goes directly to the office or use our preferred payment  method QKR.

LATE ARRIVALS

The school day starts promptly at 9.00am. When students are late they often miss valuable instructions and can cause disruptions to the school day. If your child is late to school, they must go via the office to sign in.

ABSENCES

If your child is, will be or has been absent please contact the office via Compass to let them know the reason for the absence (this is a legal requirement). We would like to reduce the number of absences due to family holidays and outings. If you are going on holiday for more than two weeks, it is a school requirement that students’ complete learning whilst on holiday. Please contact the office at least 2 weeks before you intend to go on holiday so an Absence Plan can be developed for your child.

AFTER SCHOOL PICK – UP

Due to the limited space in the portable area, we are asking that you consider meeting your child at a pre – arranged spot within the school yard, for example on the hill or at the gate. This will reduce both the noise and the congestion around the portables and increase the level of safety for all the children. Due to COVID 19 parents cannot  go to their child’s classroom to speak to their teacher at the end of the day. A scheduled meeting is required and you must sign in at the office prior to any meetings.

UNIFORM

All students are expected to be in full school uniform every day. Please refer to Compass for information on uniforms.

A few reminders regarding school uniform:

  • All students must wear the school uniform bucket hat with logo
  • School shoes should be mostly black or mostly white or a combination of both– No colours
  • Hair accessories must be white, black or green
  • Students may wear a watch and / or small sleeper earrings – no other jewellery is to be worn
  • Strictly no nail polish.

Please ensure that all uniform items such as hats, jumpers, jackets, art smocks etc. are clearly labelled with your child’s name to ensure they can be easily located when left behind.

In Terms 1 and 4 children without a hat must play in the shaded areas.

HEALTHY SNACKS AND WATER

The Year 1 teachers are very keen to promote healthy eating habits at school. We ask that all parents provide their child with a drink bottle full of water each day. We would also appreciate your assistance in providing your child with a healthy snack each day. There are many healthy options available such as a fruit, cheese and dips, vegetable cut into small pieces or yoghurt. We prefer the students not to bring chips, chocolates or lollies for a snack. Establishing healthy eating habits is essential to children being mentally and physically prepared to learn and we would appreciate your support in providing daily healthy eating options for school.

BIRTHDAYS

Children love to celebrate their birthday at school and we are happy for you to bring something to school for your child to share with their classmates, if you wish. Individual items, such as lollipops, pre-packaged cupcakes (not home made) or wrapped sweets are recommended. Each class has roughly 23 students. Please avoid foods that contain nuts.

MEET AND GREET SESSIONS

During Week 4 parents are invited to attend a short 10 minute session to meet your child’s teacher in a one on one situation. We encourage all parents to make the time to meet the teacher and discuss our expectations for the year ahead. You would have received information about Meet and Greet. Please take the time to complete the feedback form that has been sent out and bring it along to the Meet and Greet session with your child’s teacher in Week 4.

Thank you for your support.
