Welcome to Science at Greenvale Primary School for 2023. Students in Years 3-6 will have the opportunity to undertake lessons in Biological and Physical Science throughout the year.

Students will have Science in the following semesters:

Semester 1: Years 5 & 6

In Semester One, the year 5/6 students will have a weekly two-hour lesson. Our Term 1 focus is  Biological Science which is understanding the study of living things. During Term 2, students will explore Physical Science, focusing on light and energy.

Semester 2: Years 3 & 4

In Semester Two, the year 3/4 students will have a weekly two-hour lesson. Their Term 3 focus is  Biological Science, focusing on living and nonliving things. During Term 2, students will explore Physical Science, with a focus on forces and heat.

Term 1 focus: Mission to Mars

The students will learn about the survival and adaptations of living things. They will explore and investigate the possibility of colonising Mars in the future. The students will take off, land and rove on the surface of Mars and design an organism capable of living on Mars. They will conclude the unit of work with an opinion about whether colonising Mars will become a reality.

This week in Science, students explored how to land on Mars. They followed an engineering design brief and were asked to design, create, test, and refine their own Mars lander using limited materials consisting of two astronauts, paper, straws, and mini marshmallows.
