Performing Arts News term 3

This term in Performing Arts, students across all year levels have been immersed in a dynamic and creative exploration of dance, drama, music, and media arts, with a key focus on green screen technology, acting, and choreography. Each class has worked collaboratively to produce a music video, combining elements of performance and digital media. Students selected a theme and song and used a variety of tools and techniques to bring their creative visions to life. These projects reflect the students’ developing understanding of performance skills, visual storytelling, and media production.

Foundation students began their journey by creating vibrant 2D drawings, which served as the basis for their class music video. Each student was then filmed in front of a green screen, and their artwork was digitally layered to produce a cohesive and engaging group video. Year 1 students extended this process by selecting individual themes and designing their own backgrounds, while Year 2 students created 2D scenes and incorporated animated characters to enhance their individual segments. These projects fostered imagination, visual design, and basic animation skills in a playful, age-appropriate way.

In the upper year levels, students applied a more sophisticated understanding of media and performance. Year 5 students worked as a class to select a song representing a particular musical genre and decade. They researched dance trends from the chosen era and choreographed short group routines that were filmed using green screen technology. Students designed their digital backgrounds to match the theme, and these were edited together to produce a stylised, era-specific music video. This project encouraged teamwork, choreography development, and the use of digital tools to support creative expression.

Year 6 students took their learning a step further by working in small groups to research musical trends across different decades. Each group selected a song from a decade of their choice, choreographed an original performance, and designed matching digital backgrounds using Canva. Their performances will be  filmed in front of a green screen and edited into polished music videos that showcase both their creativity and their technical skills.

These music videos, along with all class performances, will be proudly presented at this year’s Whole School Art Show, celebrating student achievements in the Performing Arts through an integrated display of music, dance, drama, and media arts.
