On Tuesday November 14th, thirty-one Greenvale Primary School students attended the Lakeside Reserve in Roxburgh Park to compete in the District Billy Slater Shield.
In hot and windy conditions, the Greenvale PS students competed with great effort and sportsmanship. We entered three teams, one in the Year 6 Boys Tackle competition, one in the Year 5/6 Girls Tackle competition and one in the Year 5/6 Girls Tag competition.
The Boys team had a mix of results, including wins, losses and draws, playing against Mt Ridley College, Wallan PS, Our Ladys PS and Plenty Parklands PS. The boys unfortunately missed out on the final but still had a great time and learnt a lot about the game.
The Girls Tackle team had a wins and losses playing against Our Ladys PS and Wallan PS, ultimately finishing runners up. They continued to show great spirit and also learnt a lot about the game.
The Girls Tackle team competed against Mt Ridley College and Plenty Parklands PS, finishing in first place as the District Girls Tag champions. Greenvale will now go onto compete at the State Finals in the 5/6 Girls Tag competition. We wish this team all the best!
Congratulations to all students involved, I know you have learnt a lot about the sport of rugby and really enjoyed playing it (many of you for your first time). I hope to see you all on the field again in the future.
