State Athletics 2017

On Monday October 30th, Mischa and Max from Greenvale Primary School competed in the State Track and Field Championships held at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.

Mischa competed in the 10 Year Girls 80m Hurdles as the only 9 year old in the state finals. She ran slightly below her best in the heats, falling only 0.05 of a second short of qualifying for the final.

Max ran a personal best in his 11 Year Boys 200m heat, qualifying third fastest for the final. The rain poured for the final, making for a slow track, ultimately Max finished 5th.

Well done to both Max and Mischa on a outstanding individual achievements. You have competed at the highest level in the state and both proved to be outstanding athletes. You should be extremely proud of yourself.
I look forward to working with you through the School Sport Victoria pathway again in 2018.

Regional Basketball 2017

On Friday October 27th, seven Greenvale Primary School students attended the Mill Park Stadium to compete in the Northern Metro Region Basketball Championships.

In our pool, the girls got off to a flying starting with a comfortable victory against Bell Street Primary School.
Greenvale then played against a much more evenly matched team from Glen Katherine Primary School in a close and exciting match. The girls were in front by a point with a minute left, by unfortunately relinquished the lead with approximately thirty seconds left, going down by two points.
The team finished second in their pool, therefore having to play against the top team from the other pool, St Martins of Tours. Greenvale kept within three points of St Martins at half time, but fell short in the second half, getting knocked out of the competition in the semi final.

Special thank yous to Ms D’Angelo for coaching and also Jodie and Sharon for supporting our team and assisting on the day.

Well done to the team for all your hard work and sportsmanship. You only fell a couple of wins short, in close matches, of making a state final. You should be extremely proud of your efforts.

Regional Athletics 2017

On Wednesday October 18th, four Greenvale Primary School students attended the Meadowglen Athletics Track to compete in the Northern Metropolitan Region Athletics Championships.

In hot and sunny conditions, our students competed in a range of events including hurdles, 200m, 800m and 1500m. With mixed results throughout the day, Greenvale Primary School students maintained a positive, friendly  attitude while competing with great determination and sportsmanship.

Two of the highlights of the day were Mischa’s 1st place in the 80m hurdles, running as a bottom aged student in the 10 Year Girls and Max’s 2nd place in the 200m sprint, surprising his opposition in the 11 Year Boys.

Both of these students will go on to compete at the State Athletics Championships at Lakeside Stadium on Monday October 30th. This is an amazing achievement.
