Billy Slater Shield 2017

On Tuesday November 14th, thirty-one Greenvale Primary School students attended the Lakeside Reserve in Roxburgh Park to compete in the District Billy Slater Shield.

In hot and windy conditions, the Greenvale PS students competed with great effort and sportsmanship. We entered three teams, one in the Year 6 Boys Tackle competition, one in the Year 5/6 Girls Tackle competition and one in the Year 5/6 Girls Tag competition.

The Boys team had a mix of results, including wins, losses and draws, playing against Mt Ridley College, Wallan PS, Our Ladys PS and Plenty Parklands PS. The boys unfortunately missed out on the final but still had a great time and learnt a lot about the game.

The Girls Tackle team had a wins and losses playing against Our Ladys PS and Wallan PS, ultimately finishing runners up. They continued to show great spirit and also learnt a lot about the game.

The Girls Tackle team competed against Mt Ridley College and Plenty Parklands PS, finishing in first place as the District Girls Tag champions. Greenvale will now go onto compete at the State Finals in the 5/6 Girls Tag competition. We wish this team all the best!

State Athletics 2017

On Monday October 30th, Mischa and Max from Greenvale Primary School competed in the State Track and Field Championships held at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.

Mischa competed in the 10 Year Girls 80m Hurdles as the only 9 year old in the state finals. She ran slightly below her best in the heats, falling only 0.05 of a second short of qualifying for the final.

Max ran a personal best in his 11 Year Boys 200m heat, qualifying third fastest for the final. The rain poured for the final, making for a slow track, ultimately Max finished 5th.

Well done to both Max and Mischa on a outstanding individual achievements. You have competed at the highest level in the state and both proved to be outstanding athletes. You should be extremely proud of yourself.
I look forward to working with you through the School Sport Victoria pathway again in 2018.

Regional Basketball 2017

On Friday October 27th, seven Greenvale Primary School students attended the Mill Park Stadium to compete in the Northern Metro Region Basketball Championships.

In our pool, the girls got off to a flying starting with a comfortable victory against Bell Street Primary School.
Greenvale then played against a much more evenly matched team from Glen Katherine Primary School in a close and exciting match. The girls were in front by a point with a minute left, by unfortunately relinquished the lead with approximately thirty seconds left, going down by two points.
The team finished second in their pool, therefore having to play against the top team from the other pool, St Martins of Tours. Greenvale kept within three points of St Martins at half time, but fell short in the second half, getting knocked out of the competition in the semi final.

Special thank yous to Ms D’Angelo for coaching and also Jodie and Sharon for supporting our team and assisting on the day.

Well done to the team for all your hard work and sportsmanship. You only fell a couple of wins short, in close matches, of making a state final. You should be extremely proud of your efforts.

Divisional Interschool Sport 2017

On Friday October 20th, the Greenvale Primary School Girls Basketball, Girls Volleyball and Boys Cricket teams competed at the Divisional Finals.

All teams won their way through to the this final after completing undefeated seasons in Term One District Interschool Sport competition. Cricket played off at Jack Ginifer Reserve in Gladstone Park, whilst the Volleyball and Basketball teams competed at Boardmans Stadium in Sunbury.

The Cricket team played two matches and unfortunately lost both. They played a close and competitive match against Craigieburn South Primary School and learnt a lot when they played against a very skillful Gladstone Views Primary School team.

The Volleyball team had a mix of results, winning matches in straight sets against Westmeadows Primary School and Kilara Primary School. Then coming unstuck against Craigieburn South Primary School in the third set.

The Basketball team had a very successful day, winning their matches against Kismet Park Primary School and Gladstone Park Primary School to advance through to the Northern Metro Region Finals on Friday October 27th at the Mill Park Stadium. We wish these girls the best of luck!

Regional Athletics 2017

On Wednesday October 18th, four Greenvale Primary School students attended the Meadowglen Athletics Track to compete in the Northern Metropolitan Region Athletics Championships.

In hot and sunny conditions, our students competed in a range of events including hurdles, 200m, 800m and 1500m. With mixed results throughout the day, Greenvale Primary School students maintained a positive, friendly  attitude while competing with great determination and sportsmanship.

Two of the highlights of the day were Mischa’s 1st place in the 80m hurdles, running as a bottom aged student in the 10 Year Girls and Max’s 2nd place in the 200m sprint, surprising his opposition in the 11 Year Boys.

Both of these students will go on to compete at the State Athletics Championships at Lakeside Stadium on Monday October 30th. This is an amazing achievement.

Congratulations to all students who competed at this years Regional Athletics. You have continually pushed yourselves to be the best that you can be, you have represented our school at such a high level of competition and you always strive to improve your performances. You should be extremely proud of your results.

District Athletics 2017

On Monday August 28th, seventy four Greenvale PS students attended the District Athletics which was held at the Meadowglen Athletics Stadium in Epping.

Our students competed across a range of events including high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hurdles, 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 800m run, 1500 run and 4 x 100m relay.
Greenvale PS students competed with great athleticism, sportsmanship and effort, displaying excellent behaviour throughout the day.

In total we concluded the day with 18 first place getters, 14 seconds and 6 thirds, totalling 138 points for our school.
In a close contest this placed our school in first place for our side of the competition. This is the eighth time Greenvale PS has retained the shield.

Congratulations to the Greenvale Athletics Team for 2017. I hope to see you all involved in Athletics again next year.

Hooptime 2017

On Friday September 8th, thirty-two students from Greenvale PS competed in the 2017 Hooptime competition at Craigieburn Leisure Center. Greenvale PS entered four teams in total, comprising of two All Star Girls teams and two All Star Boys.

The Greenvale PS students, once again, were leaders both on and off the court, setting an outstanding example among the community for excellent sportsmanship, athleticism, behavior and skill.

Across all four teams there were a number of wins and losses, but more importantly, there was a lot enjoyment, engagement, challenge and learning out on the courts. Special congratulations to our top level boys and girls teams went through the tournament undefeated, once again winning the premier division of our district championships.

The top level All Star Boys and All Star Girls teams will now go onto compete at the Regional Finals at Mill Park Stadium on Thursday November 9th.

Huge thank yous to the parents and staff who came along to assist with coaching, scoring and supporting our students.
Well done to all of the students involved, you put in a terrific effort across a big day. I hope to see you all continue playing basketball into the future.
