On Friday the 2nd of September, fifty-six Year 5 and 6 students went to the Craigieburn Leisure Centre to compete in our districts Hooptime championships.
Hooptime is a single day, round robin style basketball competition with three separate levels of competition. Rookies (for beginners), Future Stars (intermediate standard) and All Stars (high standard).
Greenvale PS entered nine teams in total, three Rookies, two Future Stars and four All Star teams.
The Rookies teams had mixed results, winning and losing games, but had great smiles on their faces and simply enjoyed being out on the court (some for their first time).
The Future Star teams also had mixed results, winning and losing games, but continually displayed great improvement throughout the day.
The All Star teams competed with spirit and determination against strong opposition. One of the boys All Star teams went undefeated all day, until they unfortunately lost to Our Lady’s Craigieburn in a disappointing Grand Final. One of the girls All Star teams also went undefeated throughout the day and played Our Lady’s in a thrilling Grand Final where Greenvale scored the winning points with a mere twenty-seven seconds left on the clock.
Congratulations to our championship girls team and our runners-up boys team, as well as all of the other students who competed with great skill and sportsmanship throughout the day.
I would like to give big thank yous to Ms Hickling and Ms Kalolo for taking the time to attend and all of the parents who volunteered to assist with coaching, scoring, managing and supporting teams.
Such a busy day would not run without you.
