Technology no substitute for reading time: Mem Fox

This link is to an article written about Mem Fox, who is a very well known children’s author. She wrote the book Possum Magic and is passionate about children’s reading. She stresses how important it is for parents to read to their children.

Digital literacy such as reading on  iPads , is another means for children to have access to books, but it does not replace a parent reading to and with their child. Children who become successful readers have parents who read to them. Please read this article to learn more.

The year is certainly moving along very quickly as we near the end of Term 3. I have indicated in a recent Newsletter that I have decided to complete my time as Principal at Greenvale at the end of this term and move on to the next phase of my working career. Assistant Principal, Mrs Jane Greig-Hancock has been nominated as the Acting Principal for Term 4 while the position is advertised and filled. Jane is an outstanding member of our community and contributes in so many ways to the school. Her responsibilities include: student welfare, daily organisation of the school, curriculum leadership, data management and teaching and learning. I’m sure everyone will give Jane their full support as she takes on the role of Acting Principal.

Don’t forget that it is Sun-smart time which requires all students wearing a broad brimmed hat when outdoors.

We are looking for lots of volunteers this Saturday 7th September to help out with an election day BBQ. Contact the
