On Monday the 21st of March, the Student Voice Group launched ‘Kindness Week,’ an initiative to promote the values of kindness and acceptance across the school community. Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of activities that encouraged them to think positively, to make new friends and to perform small acts of kindness for others.
Kindness week began with the celebration of Harmony Day, a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity. The theme for this year’s Harmony Day was ‘our diversity is our strength.’ All teachers and students came to school dressed in orange, a colour that symbolises respect for one self and others. A special whole school ‘buddy lunch’ was also held on Harmony Day, encouraging students to talk to each other and make new friends.
Throughout the week students participated in a range of friendship building activities, including a family afternoon tea, classroom friendship games, lunchtime activities and junior story time. Below are some happy snaps of our wonderful students being kind to each other!
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony.”
