Egg-cellent Egg Expo

On Thursday 24th of March, the Year Four students celebrated the last day of Term 1 with an ‘Egg-cellent Egg Expo!’ Students were asked to create their own egg character and complete a character profile. We were AMAZED at the creativity and imagination of all of our students!

Students were given time to walk through each classroom and provide positive feedback to their peers, after having observed all the wonderful egg characters.

Well done to all our students for demonstrating the value of respect during the Egg Expo and a big thank you to all the parents who came along to the event!

Science Experiment – Solar Ovens

Throughout Term 1, the Year Four students have been learning how to work responsibly in collaborative groups. This has involved students working in small groups of three or four, and each person taking on a specific role to help their group achieve a common goal.

Students demonstrated their skills during a science experiment related to solar energy. Students worked within their collaborative groups to create a solar oven using a cardboard box and tin foil. The students had to follow a given set of instructions and work together to create the oven and make a delicious chocolate – marshmallow treat.

The photos below demonstrate the wonderful team work skills students developed throughout the activity – and the amazing fun they had!

Kindness Week

On Monday the 21st of March, the Student Voice Group launched ‘Kindness Week,’ an initiative to promote the values of kindness and acceptance across the school community. Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of activities that encouraged them to think positively, to make new friends and to perform small acts of kindness for others.

Kindness week began with the celebration of Harmony Day, a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity. The theme for this year’s Harmony Day was ‘our diversity is our strength.’ All teachers and students came to school dressed in orange, a colour that symbolises respect for one self and others. A special whole school ‘buddy lunch’ was also held on Harmony Day, encouraging students to talk to each other and make new friends.

Year 2 Harmony Day Celebrations and Kindness Week

The Year 2 Students have ended their first term of 2016 with a terrific activity based on being kind to one another. Each student had a paper plate with their name on it and all other classmates were asked to write something kind about their peers without them knowing. The students enjoyed this activity and reading all of the kind things that were said about them!

Here is 2SM busy at work being kind.
