Term 4 Class Captains, 2016

TERM 4, 2016 – CLASS CAPTAINS

On behalf of the Greenvale Community, I would like to recognise and congratulate all students who have been Term 3 Class Captains. It was pleasing to see the leadership skills of these students continue to grow throughout Term 3 of our school year and set the example for our future leaders.

As we commence Term 4, the leadership journey begins for a new group of students in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6. We would like to congratulate the following students and wish them the best of luck as they challenge their abilities as leaders within their classroom and within our school.

Greenvale Garden

Our busy little Year Four students have been working very hard looking after our Greenvale Veggie Garden!

Our students and their GREEN thumbs were busy weeding, raking, digging, planting and watering our Veggie Garden last week.

Every day, students take turns tending to the seedlings, making sure they receive plenty of water (and keeping those pesky snails away!).

We will keep you updated as our seedlings begin to grow!

Mindfulness in Action

Over the last six weeks, the students in Year Four have participated in a wonderful self-awareness program named Mindfulness in Action. The program was run by the Life Skills group, teaching students the important values of respect, honesty, sportsmanship, fair play, perseverance, strength and gratitude, just to name a few!

Each week, students were taught how to be active listeners, how to be mindful of their actions and how to be aware of their surroundings. Students worked in small groups and participated in a variety of fun and engaging activities, as our photographs demonstrate below!

The Year Four teachers are so pleased with the positive attitude of all students and we hope to see the adopted mindful behaviours demonstrated every day in the classroom!

Ace-Hi Ranch

On Wednesday the 4th of May, 70 excited Year 4 students carried their pillows and sleeping bags and boarded the bus for their first ever stay – away camp! The buses were filled with nervous laughter as the students made their way along the Mornington Peninsula to the fun-filled horse riding camp – Ace-Hi Ranch!

Students participated in a range of activities designed to develop confidence, team work and a sense of adventure! The giant swing, flying fox and rock climbing wall were just some of the highlights of the fun 3-day camp.

The students also had fun learning how to ride a horse and how to shoot a bow and arrow. It was fantastic to see the students working as a team to make their way through the very tricky obstacle course! Lots of giggling and laughter could be heard in the air as the children tried to swing across the ‘lake of alligators.’

By the end of our three day camp, new friendships were formed, fears were faced (and beaten!) and lots of tired yet happy campers returned home with new found confidence. Congratulations to all the Year 4 campers for their amazing behaviour, manners and attitude!
