Kindness Week

On Monday the 21st of March, the Student Voice Group launched ‘Kindness Week,’ an initiative to promote the values of kindness and acceptance across the school community. Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of activities that encouraged them to think positively, to make new friends and to perform small acts of kindness for others.

Kindness week began with the celebration of Harmony Day, a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity. The theme for this year’s Harmony Day was ‘our diversity is our strength.’ All teachers and students came to school dressed in orange, a colour that symbolises respect for one self and others. A special whole school ‘buddy lunch’ was also held on Harmony Day, encouraging students to talk to each other and make new friends.

Throughout the week students participated in a range of friendship building activities, including a family afternoon tea, classroom friendship games, lunchtime activities and junior story time. Below are some happy snaps of our wonderful students being kind to each other!

Student Voice – GRIP Leadership Conference

On Wednesday the 17th of February 2016, the Student Voice team was lucky enough to attend a G.R.I.P leadership conference in the city. We were very excited and couldn’t wait to attend. When we entered the building we couldn’t believe how many students were there! There were around 50 schools participating.

Roden, Andy and Carl, who work at G.R.I.P, went through the conference with us. We received a booklet with games and information about leadership. Students could win leadership badges if they won a game.

One of the games involved getting to know other people from different schools. The game was called ‘The Voice’ where we had to walk around and ask students who weren’t from our school if they could sing in a specific way. The first person to complete their game board was the winner. Unfortunately, no one from our school won but we had a great time playing!

One of the awesome ideas we discussed was investigating a new three step campaign to ‘stamp out bullying’ at Greenvale Primary. Some campaign methods include making posters and putting them around the school, coming up with a slogan, advertising on our school website and making assembly announcements.

Crazy Accessories Day – Thank you

Thank you to all of the students who wore their crazy accessories to celebrate the last day of school 2015 and raise money for the ‘Friends of Sammy Joe Foundation.’

I am pleased to announce that we raised a total of $257.35!

Despite the weather, we had many wigs, headbands, sunglasses, caps and other accessories.
