Chess Competition 2017

On Tuesday September 19th Evan, Sethouli, Alvina, Ben and Sean represented Greenvale Primary School in Primary Chess Victoria’s Interschool Chess Competition. This was held at Thornbury Primary School. The students played seven games of chess each, finishing second overall and qualifying for the Regional Semi Finals.

On Thursday the October 26th, these same students represented our school at Marcellin College, Bulleen for the Regional Semi Finals.
The competition was tough and unfortunately our smaller size team found it difficult to compete with the larger numbers from other schools. However, the team were very proud of making it to the Regional Finals.

Multicultural Week

At the end of Term 2, the Year 2 students all participated in a Multicultural Week.

On Tuesday we looked at Indigenous Australians. The students did charcoal drawings, decorated boomerangs and got to taste ‘bush tucker’.

On Wednesday we looked at Multicultural Australians. We walked to the Greenvale shopping centre to investigate food and grocery items available from other countries, we cooked rice and used chopsticks to eat it and we made necklaces from macaroni.

On Thursday we studied Australia. The students dressed up in Aussie bush attire and were able to try some Australian food- vegemite sandwich and lamingtons.

We all had a fantastic week celebrating Multiculturalism in Australia. Below are some photos of the students having fun!

See the photo of just how much food we collected. OVER 100 shopping bags filled with groceries. What a fantastic effort!

On Tuesday the 22nd of November, as part of their Economics unit the Year 5 and Year 6 listened to the inspiring, brave and mesmerising Koky Saly.

On that day Koky Saly talked about his struggles and battles through three tough years of his life. Koky Saly was inspiring because he fought bravely to handle this time and because he still kept dreaming of this day of his success even when his sister/ best friend died.

How he started his business/ Charity which is BeeKeeper Parade, he got this inspiration when his sister passed away and he always knew that his sister was still dreaming about making this successful charit.  He was the presenter we have had this year!

Thanks to our teachers for organising Koky Saly to talk to us
