Physical Education, Term 4 – December

The Sport and Physical Education programs at Greenvale PS have been sprinting through Term Four.

Students in Prep, Year One and Two have explored units of work on sport specific skills. Within this unit, students have analysed the sports of tee-ball, AFL, basketball and tennis in order to identify and practice the skills necessary for success in them. This has reinforced and associated learning from motor skill lessons throughout the year. From this, students have then participated in fundamental motor skill circuits and locomotive games which contain changes in speed and direction. When engaging in Physical Education lessons, students have been entrenched in an environment which promotes the values of respect, responsibility, honesty and sportsmanship.

Students in Year Three and Four have participated in circuit training fitness sessions and explored the major sports of tennis, gymnastics, and cricket. Students have analysed the skills, tactics and knowledge necessary to participate in these sports and have actively explored this through minor games and skill based activities.

Student in Years Five and Six continued with their fitness testing in at the end of each term, in order to monitor / improve their fitness and hopefully achieve their personal goals. Students also explored the major sports of

Hooptime Regional Finals

On Monday the 9th of November the All Star Boys and Girls Hooptime teams competed at the regional finals at the Mill Park Basketball Studium.

With the competition being very fierce, the All Star Boys team had a mix of results throughout the day, unfortunately missing out on the grand final by one game.
The All Star Girls successfully won their into their grand final, but unfortunately fell one win short of securing a place at the state championships.

Well done to all of the students involved, you should all be extremely proud of your efforts to represent Greenvale Primary School at such a high level.

Special thank you’s go to Kellie Kalolo and Shane Gillard for coaching the teams, as well as Sharon Matuauto and Jess Okines for assisting on the scoring desk.

State Athletics Championships 2015

Congratulations to both Maddox and Sienna who represented Greenvale Primary School at the State Athletics Championships, held at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.

Maddox and Sienna both competed in the hurdles events for their respective age groups, against the toughest competition from across Victoria.

Sienna placed 4th in her heat with a time of 16.01 seconds. Unfortunately she missed out on qualifying for the final by only 0.02 of a second!
Overall Sienna finished as the 10th fastest hurdler for her age group in the state. An amazing result, well done Sienna.

Maddox also placed 4th in his heat with a time of 13.90 seconds. This time qualified him for the final.
In the final Maddox improved on the time by running a 13.87.
Overall he finished as the 7th fastest hurdler for his age group in the state. Another outstanding result.

Both students should be extremely proud of the effort, athleticism, commitment and hard work to compete at such a high level. We wish them all the best for 2016.
