Girls AFL – State Final

On Wednesday September 7th the Greenvale Primary School Girls AFL team went to Princes Park to compete in the state championships.

The girls competition was split into two pools of four teams. Each team played three matches against other teams in their pool. The top finishing teams from each pool went to play off in a Grand Final.

Greenvale PS played against Port Melbourne PS, Mont Albert PS and Christ the Priest PS. The girls played strong football throughout the day and had hard fought wins again Port Melbourne and Mont Albert. Unfortunately the girls were out classed by Christ the Priest PS (but only by nine points), who went on to win the Grand Final in a thrilling extra time match.

Well done to all of the Greenvale team for always maintaining a positive attitude and striving to improve their performance. Special thank you’s to all of the parents who got our students there and supported the team.
Third place in the state in an excellent result.

District Athletics 2016

The District Athletics started almost three weeks ago, when the seventy Greenvale Primary School Athletics Team members went to Meadowglenn Athletics Track on Friday August 19th.
Unfortunately the rain grew too strong on this day, and we had to cancel proceedings, only making it through half of the scheduled events.

Our second Athletics Day was then rescheduled for Thursday August 25th. But unfortunately, with the threat of a storm, this day was also cancelled.

Our third and final attempt to conclude our Athletics Day was on Monday September 5th. Fortunately for us, we had bright and sunny weather throughout this day and were able to finish off all pending events.

Across all of these days, the Greenvale team competed with great spirit, resilience and determination. With many walking away with ribbons and smiles on their faces.
As some schools could not attend rescheduled athletics days, the district decided to not announce a champion school for 2016.

However, twenty Greenvale Primary School students will move onto represent our district at the upcoming Divisional Athletics at Meadowglen Athletics Track, on Tuesday September 13th.

We wish these students all the best.

Senior Hooptime 2016

On Friday the 2nd of September, fifty-six Year 5 and 6 students went to the Craigieburn Leisure Centre to compete in our districts Hooptime championships.

Hooptime is a single day, round robin style basketball competition with three separate levels of competition. Rookies (for beginners), Future Stars (intermediate standard) and All Stars (high standard).

Greenvale PS entered nine teams in total, three Rookies, two Future Stars and four All Star teams.

The Rookies teams had mixed results, winning and losing games, but had great smiles on their faces and simply enjoyed being out on the court (some for their first time).

The Future Star teams also had mixed results, winning and losing games, but continually displayed great improvement throughout the day.

The All Star teams competed with spirit and determination against strong opposition. One of the boys All Star teams went undefeated all day, until they unfortunately lost to Our Lady’s Craigieburn in a disappointing Grand Final. One of the girls All Star teams also went undefeated throughout the day and played Our Lady’s in a thrilling Grand Final where Greenvale scored the winning points with a mere twenty-seven seconds left on the clock.

Congratulations to our championship girls team and our

Divisional AFL

On Friday 22nd July, the Greenvale Interschool AFL Team played in the divisional championships at Jacana Reserve.

The team played in three matches against St Annes PS Sunbury, Wallan PS and Good Shepherd PS Gladstone Park.

Greenvale were strongly challenged in all of their matches, defeating St Annes and Wallan PS in the first two rounds.

The final match was a play off against Good Shepherd who were also undefeated.
Unfortunately for us, we lost this final match with Good Shepherd proving too strong.

Greenvale’s spirit, sportsmanship, skill and effort were constant highlights throughout the day.
The team should be incredibly proud of their efforts throughout the AFL season and proud that we were the only team to play a truly mixed team (males and females).

I hope all members of the AFL team continue to pursue the sport in the future and constantly look to improve their skills.
