Class Captains Term 1 Year 5

A big congratulations to our year five class captains for Term 1. They have been voted by their peers as leaders of their class. We look forward to seeing you as role models for your peers demonstrating our school values of respect, responsibility, learning, honesty and resilience.

Crazy Accessories Day – Thank you

Thank you to all of the students who wore their crazy accessories to celebrate the last day of school 2015 and raise money for the ‘Friends of Sammy Joe Foundation.’

I am pleased to announce that we raised a total of $257.35!

Despite the weather, we had many wigs, headbands, sunglasses, caps and other accessories.

Greenvale Cross Country – Friday Feb 19th

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Greenvale Cross Country will be held at School / Bradford Oval on Friday February 19th beginning at approximately 9.15am and concluding at 11.00am.

Every student from Years 4-6, as well as some Year 3 students will be competing for their house and for the chance to represent Greenvale in the district cross country. Students will compete against peers from their age group and all events are gender based.

 

The following distances will be run for each age group:

9/10 year old: 2km                             11 year old: 3km                 12/13 year old: 3km

 

Age groups are based on the age a student will be on the 31/12/2016. For example: all students born in 2007 or 2006 will be in the 9/10 year age group, all students born in 2005 will be in the 11 year age group and all students born in 2004 or 2003 will be in the 12/13 year age group.

 

Students are encouraged pack a healthy lunch on this day and have a full water bottle.

Students should wear sports appropriate clothing (shoes, shorts and shirt) that help support their house colour, but may need a tracksuit for before and after the

Cyber Safety Parent Information Night

Want to know more about Cyber Safety and how to protect your family?

To help celebrate “Safer Internet Day” Greenvale Primary School invites you to an information night where you will:

  • Learn how we teach cyber safety to your children
  • View some student work on cyber safety
  • Be introduced to the Government’s “Office of the Children’s        eSafety Commissioner”
  • Be provided with some strategies to protect your children at home

You will also be provided with the login code which will allow you access to 4 online parent courses free of charge

The Mouthguard Man

We have been contacted by an authorised dental company, known as “The Mouthguard Man” that specialises in mouthguard fittings for juniors and seniors who participate in various sporting activities.  We at Greenvale Primary School are aware of the importance of protecting your children’s developing teeth and encourage all sports players to consider wearing a mouthguard whilst playing and competing in sport. Due to the schools commitment to provide opportunities for our community, we encourage all students who participate to seriously consider this option.

If you are interested in a mouthguard fitting, can you please fill out the attached expression of interest form and return to Mr Carroll by Wednesday 24th February, 2016

The “Mouthguard Man” has been booked and will be visiting Greenvale Primary School on:

Physical Education, Term 4 – December

The Sport and Physical Education programs at Greenvale PS have been sprinting through Term Four.

Students in Prep, Year One and Two have explored units of work on sport specific skills. Within this unit, students have analysed the sports of tee-ball, AFL, basketball and tennis in order to identify and practice the skills necessary for success in them. This has reinforced and associated learning from motor skill lessons throughout the year. From this, students have then participated in fundamental motor skill circuits and locomotive games which contain changes in speed and direction. When engaging in Physical Education lessons, students have been entrenched in an environment which promotes the values of respect, responsibility, honesty and sportsmanship.

Students in Year Three and Four have participated in circuit training fitness sessions and explored the major sports of tennis, gymnastics, and cricket. Students have analysed the skills, tactics and knowledge necessary to participate in these sports and have actively explored this through minor games and skill based activities.

Student in Years Five and Six continued with their fitness testing in at the end of each term, in order to monitor / improve their fitness and hopefully achieve their personal goals. Students also explored the major sports of
