Italian Week

During week 3 the Year 4 students celebrated Italian week. Students came to school dressed in Italian colours and began the celebration by watching a few Italian performances at the school morning assembly. Students also enjoyed watching a musical play in the school gym. The play was filled with laughter and the students enjoyed watching it. During the week students also celebrated Italian week by having a Italian feast in their classrooms! During lunch time they ate pizzas, crostoli’s and different flavoured gelati. Book Week

This week the Year 3 and 4 students celebrated book week. To celebrate, all students dressed up in some of their favourite book characters and participated in a parade. Students were very creative with their costumes and they looked fantastic! The parade began with a great introduction from Ms Trunchbull from Matilda and then students paraded around the BER building, showing their costumes. As part of the parade, students and teachers voted for 1st and 2nd best costume in their classrooms. Next week, the library team will be choosing their 1st and 2nd best costumes and will be announcing them at morning assembly. Thank-you to the library staff and year 3/4 team for helping to organise a fantastic day!

Year 4 Science Unit

As part of their Science unit on ‘Change’ students in Year 4 have been learning about ‘heat.’ Students have been exploring how heat affects different ingredients such as butter, wax, copha and chocolate. After observing what happens, they gave reasons for their results and recorded them in their inquiry books. Here is a before and after photo that was taken when some of the students melted butter!

Students were also interested about how copha can be used to make crackle – here is a link to a recipe that you could use to make chocolate crackles at home!

Excursion to Royal Botanical Gardens and Shrine of Remembrance

Last week the students visited the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance as part of their Inquiry unit. Students participated in a “Welcome to Country” ceremony and walked around the gardens, where they were shown types of trees and plants that are used in Indigenous Australian culture. They created their own paintings using “ochre” paint and teachers were very impressed to see thoughts and ideas being shared when discussing different Indigenous Australian artefacts with their groups. Students also visited the Shrine of Remembrance, where they paid their respect for the sacrifices made by Australians who served in war. Some students were even given poppies to place on a wall by the shrine. Below are some photos of the day. Teachers were pleased to hear that the staff at the Shrine of Remembrance commented on students excellent behaviour. The year 4 team would like to commend the year 4 students for a successful day!
