Regional Athletics 2017

On Wednesday October 18th, four Greenvale Primary School students attended the Meadowglen Athletics Track to compete in the Northern Metropolitan Region Athletics Championships.

In hot and sunny conditions, our students competed in a range of events including hurdles, 200m, 800m and 1500m. With mixed results throughout the day, Greenvale Primary School students maintained a positive, friendly  attitude while competing with great determination and sportsmanship.

Two of the highlights of the day were Mischa’s 1st place in the 80m hurdles, running as a bottom aged student in the 10 Year Girls and Max’s 2nd place in the 200m sprint, surprising his opposition in the 11 Year Boys.

Both of these students will go on to compete at the State Athletics Championships at Lakeside Stadium on Monday October 30th. This is an amazing achievement.

Congratulations to all students who competed at this years Regional Athletics. You have continually pushed yourselves to be the best that you can be, you have represented our school at such a high level of competition and you always strive to improve your performances. You should be extremely proud of your results.

I look forward to watching your development over the coming years.

Tennis Hot Shots 2017

Over four weeks of Term 3, all students in Years 3 and 4 at Greenvale Primary School took part in a Tennis Hot Shots program.

This program was delivered in conjunction with staff from the Greenvale Tennis Club, including their Head Coach, former professional tennis player and former Greenvale Primary School student Chris Guccione.

The students learnt a lot across the four weeks, refining the forehand, backhand, volleying and serving skills.
Each student received a voucher for a free group lesson at the Greenvale Tennis Club, and it was pleasing to hear that some students are now regularly coached at the club.

At the conclusion of the program the students played off in a Hot Shots tournament, with only one boy and one girl from Years 3 and 4 to win the title of Hot Shots Champions for 2017.

Following Mondays Grand Final, I would like to congratulate Rebekah and Michael for being the Hot Shots Champs for 2017.

I hope to see you continue to represent Greenvale Primary School on the sporting fields over the next few years.

Girls AFL 9s – State Finals

On Wednesday September 6th, eleven Greenvale PS students competed in AFL Victoria’s 9s State Finals.

In sometimes wet and windy conditions the girls were placed in a tough pool of team, playing against Wedge Park PS, St Martins of Tours, Christ the Priest PS and Williamstown North PS.
This pool of teams included last year’s winners and runners up of this competition.

Greenvale started off strongly with a comfortable victory against Wedge Park PS.
Following this they played a strong contest against Christ the Priest PS but were behind early kicking against the breeze. When we had the wind in the second half we started to get goals on the scoreboard but unfortunately turnovers proved too costly.
The final two games went right down to the wire in exciting and challenging contests. These finished with a draw against Williamstown North and a one point nail biter against St Martins of Tours.

Well done to all of the girls involved throughout the district, regional and state levels of competition. Your success is a credit to your hard work and dedication and I can’t wait to see what you will achieve in the remainder of 2017.
